Disadvantages of 56K
|
Introduction
56K has two significant disadvantages. You can't use it if there is more than one analog-to-digital conversion in your local phone loop. There are two major 56K technologies that are non-interoperable: you have to buy a 56K modem that uses the same 56K technology used in your Internet Service Provider's modem. There are some other cons to 56K, but none are as important as these two deal-killers. There are some other things you should be aware of: 56K is for download only; uploads are at a more modest 28.8K or 33.6K. Top speed in the U.S. will be initially limited to 53K because of FCC regulations. These minor disadvantages are a nuisance, but they won't prevent most people from using the technology. |
