How do I install the .inf file after I download it?
You'll need to install the file using the Add New
Hardware wizard.
- From the Start menu, choose Settings->Control
Panel.
- Doubleclick Add New Hardware.
- Click Next.
- You'll be asked if you want Windows to search for
your new hardware. We want to specify the new modem
information, so select No and click Next.
- Next, you'll need to select the type of hardware to
install. Clearly, you want to select Modem. Then click
Next.
- Windows will offer to try to detect a new modem. This
often works, and is worth a shot if you don't have a .inf
file. Since you do have a .inf file, you want to select "
Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list."
Then click Next.
- Click the Have Disk button.
- Click Browse and navigate to the folder where the
.inf file is located. If you're in the right directory,
the .inf file should be listed on the left side of the
window. Click OK.
- Click OK in the Install from Disk window.
- Select your modem from the list and click OK.
- Select the COM port your modem is on and click
OK.
- Click Finish when Windows is done setting up the
modem.
