Slow modem text: New Thing happens; someone thinks up catchy label for New Thing; press picks up on New Thing story; pundits line up to declare New Thing "Greatest Since Sliced Bread." Knock us over with a feather. Microsoft's Windows XP will not support Intel-backed USB 2.0, but will support Apple-backed Firewire. Sure, Firewire is a standard (IEEE 1394) and not one of Apple's pet projects, but who woulda thunk it?
