I have a HP Pavilion 8160 with a LT modem. I was not able to connect with anyone at K56Flex until I downloaded the above update. I now consistently obtain 42000 validated using the ATI11 modem command. I am 18,000 feet from the primary phone switch. I received that information by calling 611 and requesting a test.
Diamond Multimedia has new beta firmware for the PC SupraExpress 56K at http://beta.supra.com/. The latest version is V1.120-04. As always, use beta software at your own risk.
ThunderMax is the newest company on the firmware and inits pages. They have firmware updates and drivers for their Texas Instruments x2 and Rockwell K56flex modems.

I've received lots of requests for firmware updates for the K56flex LT WinModem, which is used in a number of popular computers (HP, Sony, etc.). Craig Schultz found the firmware updates on Hewlett-Packard's site. I wasn't able to find it there, but Craig has it here.
Info-Mac and its mirrors have Mac CCL files for the Motorola 56K ModemSURFR and VoiceSURFR.

The Study Group 16 Working Party meeting also made considerable progress on the new Recommendation for PCM modems (also known as 56k modems). Because these new modems are designed for connections which are digital at one end and have only one analogue-to-digital conversion, they are expected to be widely used for new applications such as Internet and on-line service access. The commencement of the formal approval process for this Recommendation is now rescheduled for the next meeting of Study Group 16, in January-February 1998, with final approval expected in September of that year.
