New V.90 modem plugs into PCI bus and ships with Hasbro" Battleship game
BOSTON, MA, June 1, 1998-Zoom Telephonics (R), a leading manufacturer of faxmodems and other wide area network PC communications products, announced today that it has begun shipping its first faxmodem that installs into a PCI slot, the Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCI Dualmode.
The Zoom/FaxModem 56K PCI Dualmode is a plug-and-play voice faxmodem designed for Windows 95 (TM) or later PCs with Pentium (TM) P133 or faster processors. The PCI Dualmode automatically negotiates both the ITU V.90 56K standard and K56flex (TM), the most widely supported pre-standard 56K technology, as well as V.34 33.6K and lower ITU and Bell standards. Signal processing is handled by the modem's on-board Rockwell digital signal processor whose programmability allows easy downloads of firmware upgrades for feature enhancements.
The Zoom/Faxmodem 56K PCI Dualmode is Zoom's lowest cost 56K modem with an estimated street price of $79 to $89. The PCI Dualmode is controllerless so that modem commands and compression are handled by the computer's CPU, decreasing the cost of the modem.

The PCI Dualmode ships with InstallShield (TM) which automatically installs the modem drivers. The faxmodem is bundled with COMMUNICATE!™ LITE, a full suite of voice/data/fax software, and includes Jasc. Inc.'s Paintshop Pro SE.

Unlike many popular Windows-only modems, Zoom's new PCI Dualmode includes V.80 capability for compatibility with H.324 point-to-point videotelephony. The PCI Dualmode also supports H.323 videoconferencing over the Internet or LANs, and provides 14.4 Kbps send/receive fax, Distinctive Ring support, and exclusive ZoomGuard (TM) lightning protection.
