DSL ISPs Cable Companies Dialup Internet Service Providers
I just received yesterday a brand new modem from a canadian firm called Premier. The modem is the Premier XL 56K Flex SVe used in UK.
The documentation is a bit thin but the configuration was ok at first time under Windows 95. It supports DVSD and is a K56 Flex modem.
Using my cable phone line to my ISP cable POP, I was able to get connected at 50000 bauds and transfered a 1.4MB ZIP file from the main London ftp site (ftp://src.doc.ic.ac.uk), at the speed of 5.2KB/s following Netscape ftp session transfer results.( I checked that the transmission was not interrupted sucht that the results were valid).
Ok this ftp access was carried out at 2.00AM but 170 upon 193 users were connected on this FTP at this time.
I have to say that I am impressed by the quality of this modem and its speed, even if the documentation is just 10 pages long!
I will set new tests in the following days.
Cheers.
